In this talk, we will share our experience conducting user research with people who have experienced a traumatic event. We will share our learnings and the Trauma-Informed principles that ensured minimal cognitive effort on the part of the user, and reduced the risk of reliving traumatic experiences. By participating in this talk, the audience will walk away with an application of the Trauma-Informed framework and practices to leverage in their user research practices.

Moni Gmitro
Sumonthip (Moni) Gmitro is currently a Product Designer at VMware Tanzu Labs, delivering user value through partnering with clients. Moni was a Product Designer at Kohl’s to lead the LEAN UX adoption in Marketing Department. Prior to joining Kohl’s, Moni was a Senior Product Designer at Boeing and was named as a Boeing Designated Expert in User Experience. Moni received an M.S. in Industrial Engineering. She also holds a B.A. in Engineering Management from Thammasat University. She is a committee member of User Experience Day at Human Factors and Ergonomics Society which strives for UX leadership development among UX industry professionals and students. She is also a board member of General Assembly User Experience Design Standard.
